Whistler in 24 Hours: The Vancouver Day Trip Insiders Take

4 min read

Whistler is 90 minutes north of Vancouver via the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Most visitors get the day wrong — they over-pack the itinerary, hit the village at peak crowd time and never see the actual mountain experience. Here's the insider's 24-hour Whistler.

The Drive Up

Leave Vancouver at 7 AM to clear the city before traffic. Stop at Porteau Cove provincial park for a 10-minute photo break overlooking Howe Sound. In Squamish, the Sea-to-Sky Gondola is the must-stop — gondola up, walk the suspension bridge, ride down. Arrive in Whistler Village by 10:30 AM.

On the Mountain

In summer, take the Peak 2 Peak Gondola across both Whistler and Blackcomb peaks — 4.4 km, the longest unsupported gondola span in the world. Hike to High Note Trail for the best alpine views. In winter, ski or board the upper bowls — Whistler-Blackcomb is the largest ski resort in North America.

Lunch and Afternoon

Bearfoot Bistro for tasting menu, Araxi for Pacific Northwest, Sushi Village for casual. Spend the afternoon at the Scandinave Spa (90 minutes from the village) — outdoor hot baths, cold plunges and silent forest relaxation.

The Drive Back

Leave Whistler by 6 PM to avoid weekend traffic returning to Vancouver. Stop at the Britannia Mine Museum or for fish and chips in Squamish if time allows.

24 hours is enough for Whistler if you respect the rhythm of the day. Layer in the gondola, a quality lunch and the spa — skip the village shopping — and you have a near-perfect Vancouver day trip.
