The Sea-to-Sky corridor — from Howe Sound up through Squamish to Whistler — is one of the world's most dramatic mountain landscapes. From 3,000 feet, it becomes something else entirely. This is the insider's guide to Vancouver helicopter tours.
The Routes
The classic 20-minute tour leaves from the harbour heliport in downtown Vancouver and loops Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge and the North Shore mountains. The hour-long Sea-to-Sky tour heads up Howe Sound, over the Squamish Chief, past glaciers and lands briefly at Whistler. The two-hour glacier tour adds Garibaldi Provincial Park and rarely-flown alpine lakes.
Heli-Skiing and Backcountry
Winter shifts the program toward heli-skiing. Whistler Heli Skiing operates one of Canada's most established programs — full days of off-piste runs into untouched alpine basins, with experienced guides and full safety equipment. December through April are peak.
Private Charter and Hospitality
Private charters with stops — alpine picnic at a glacial lake, lunch in Whistler, or proposal/engagement programs — are increasingly popular. Expect $1,500 to $5,000 per hour depending on aircraft size and program complexity.
A helicopter tour is the single best way to see what makes Vancouver and its surrounding wilderness one of the most extraordinary settings of any major city on earth.
